Creamy Grits
These Creamy Southern Grits are rich, buttery, and perfectly smooth, bringing classic Southern comfort to your table. Made with simple pantry staples, this easy recipe delivers a warm and satisfying side dish for breakfast or dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Grits (Quaker 5 minute grits work fine)
- 4 cups Water (salted) (Can also do 1 cup chicken broth, 3 cups water for more flavor)
- Heavy Cream
- Cheeses of your choice Recommendations: Cheddar, Smoked Gouda, Pepper Jack are some of my favorites
- Butter
- Salt
- Pepper
Instructions
- Boil 4 cups of water
- Add in your grits to the boiling water - whisking while you do so
- Cover and reduce heat to low and let simmer until the grits start to thicken (usually around 5 minutes). Stir occasionally
- Add in heavy cream. DO NOT GO OVERBOARD WITH CREAM. Start with 2-3 tablespoon of cream and stir. Add more if needed based on the creaminess you prefer
- Add in your cheese and mix in until melted. Start with ½ cup and add an additional ½ cup until your desired cheesiness is reached.
- Add in 2tbsp butter (¼ stick)
- Add salt and pepper to taste
