Delete Your Account

You can permanently delete your Tha Daily Special account and the data attached to it at any time. There are two ways to do it: do it yourself in about ten seconds, or ask us to do it for you. Both delete the same things.

Option 1

Delete it yourself

The fastest route, and the one to use if you can still sign in. It works the same in the app and on the website.

  1. Sign in and open Account settings.
  2. Scroll to the Delete account box at the bottom. It has a red border, so it is hard to miss.
  3. Type DELETE in the confirmation box and choose Delete my account.

That runs immediately. There is no waiting period and no confirmation email to chase.

Option 2

Ask us to delete it

Use this if you cannot sign in, lost access to the email address on the account, or would simply rather we handled it.

Email hello@thadailyspecial.com with the subject Delete my account and include:

  • The email address you signed up with.
  • Your username, if you set one.
  • Anything else that helps us be sure the account is yours, for example roughly when you joined or whether you were a Grubb Club member.

We will reply within a few business days to confirm the account is yours, and complete the deletion within 30 days of that confirmation. We ask for those details because deleting an account cannot be undone, and we are not willing to do it to the wrong person on nothing more than a name.

What gets deleted

Deleting your account permanently removes:

  • Your login itself, meaning your email address and your stored password (which was only ever kept as a secure hash).
  • Your profile: your name, username, profile picture, birthday if you saved one, and your membership status and history.
  • Your profile picture file, deleted from our image storage as part of the same action.
  • Your chat messages, replies, reactions and read history in the Grubb Lounge. These are attached to your profile in the database and go when it does.
  • Any notification tokens for phones you installed the app on, so notifications stop arriving.

It cannot be undone, and it is not reversible by asking us afterwards. If you only want a break from the emails or the notifications, you can turn those off in account settings without deleting anything.

What happens to your membership

If you have an active Grubb Club membership, deleting your account cancels it first, immediately, before anything else is removed. Your card is not charged again. That order is deliberate: an account should never disappear and leave a subscription quietly billing behind it. If the cancellation cannot go through for any reason, the deletion stops and tells you rather than pressing on.

You are also unsubscribed from our newsletter at the same time, since after deletion you would have no way left to manage that preference from the site.

What is kept, and why

A few things outlive the account. Specifically:

  • Payment and billing records. These live with Stripe, our payment processor, and are kept for tax, accounting and legal reasons. We have never held your card number, CVC or expiry date, and we do not hold them after deletion either. Stripe collects and stores those directly.
  • Messages you sent us. If you wrote in through our contact form or applied to the vendor program, those submissions are stored separately from your account and are not removed by deleting it. Say so in your email and we will remove those too.
  • Anonymous page counts. We count how many people read each page, without cookies and without ever storing an IP address. Those counts are not linked to you or to any account, so there is nothing in them to delete.

Deleting the app is not the same thing

Removing the app from your phone stops the notifications on that phone, but it does not delete your account or your data. Use one of the two options above for that.
